We Belong...

How you can be involved
Parent Engagement is more that helping out at the annual working bee.  St Mel's welcomes and encourages parents to take an active role in our community.  Don't wait to be asked, we encourage to offer your help when ever you can.  Many hands make fun work.

Parent Participation
  • As part of the St. Mel's School Community, we expect our parents to:
  • Encourage, understand and show support for the school's programs.
  • Be active participants in the life of the school, including our decision making process, as well as participation in a wide range of voluntary activities.
  • Co-operate with other members of the school and parish community.
  • Accept and actively support the Catholic ethos of the school community.
  • Participate in the child's spiritual, sacramental and pastoral education process.
  • Fulfill all financial obligations to the school community.

We would like to encourage all parents to participate as fully as they can in the life of the school. There are a range of ways parents can become involved, including:
  • Visiting the classroom
  • Assisting with excursions, phys. ed activities
  • Hearing children's reading and editing their written work
  • Collating newsletters
  • Covering books
  • Helping out in the canteen
  • Volunteering for school gardening projects or to do maintenance work
  • Joining the Social Club
  • Joining the Parish Education Board
  • Assisting at school fundraising activities
  • Attending assemblies
  • Coaching / managing sports teams (link)
  • Attending working Bees - these are conducted as the need arises. We would like each family to make an effort to attend at least one working bee each year.

St. Mel's Social Club (link)
This group consists of volunteer parents and other members of our community (e.g. grandparents, former parent, staff members, aunties, etc.) whose aims are as follows:
  • To cater for the general welfare of the school community.
  • To liaise and co-operate with the Parish Education Board and the parish community as a whole.
  • To raise funds each year to help assist with the purchase of equipment and resources for the school. This helps keep school fees down, and in fact, the Sandhurst Diocese has the lowest school fees of any Catholic Diocese in Australia.
  • To foster and develop a spirit of community among parents and friends.
Meetings are held each month and all parents and friends are welcome. No formal membership is required.

Please contact our Social Club President Fiona O'Hora on 03 58213163 for further information (School office number)

Parish Education Board (link)

  • Catholic Identity

  • Resources and Facilities
  • Leadership
  • Pastoral Care
  • Kindergarten operations
